Qiongzhou Strait

Geographical location

The Haina street or Qiongzhou Street (Chinese琼州 海峡/琼州 海峡, Pinyin Qiongzhou Haixie, English Qiongzhou Strait / Qiongzhou Straits ) is a strait between the Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong and Hainan Province in southern China. It connects the Gulf of Tonkin in the west with the South China Sea to the east.

General

The width of the Haina road is about 15 to 30 km, the average depth is 44 meters, the maximum depth is about 120 meters.

It has recently been crossed by the railway ferries of the Yue Hai -Bahn (Guangdong - Hainan Railway, from Zhanjiang to Sanya ).

Project

Bridge over the road Haina

A 140 billion RMB ($ 21 billion ) expensive bridge across the strait is designed. Construction is expected to begin in 2012. The bridge is currently under development. You should have levels for both trains and cars and is expected to be 26.3 kilometers long. The current ferry service across the Straits is prone to closure during strong typhoon activity.
