The Kolla (also Coya ) ( pronunciation: koja or koscha ) are an indigenous people of South America. They live in northern Chile, in northwestern Argentina and southern Bolivia.

The Kolla came in the 10th - 12th Century under the influence of the Incas and took their culture, language ( Quechua, Aymara also partially ), and their advanced technology. In the 16th century, they were colonized by the Spaniards engaging and exploited as cheap miners. Nevertheless, they were able to successfully oppose the genocide. Even today, many live according to their traditional culture.

The Kolla know how many other Indian tribes no private property, but operate in a collective agriculture. Your very own rites have mixed over time with Christian elements. So the Kollas homage still the Pachamama cult. However, this is just like the carnival degraded to a tourist attraction in recent decades.

In Argentina, the Kolla have - partly mixed with the Guaraní and related peoples - except with the whites. During the Argentine economic crisis of 2001 came the Comunidad Kolla Guaraní in Oran ( in the Argentine province of Salta ) in the headlines because their members acted as Piqueteros, ie erected in protest roadblocks.
