Qurratulain Hyder

Qurratulain Hyder ( Urdu: قرۃ العین حیدر, also Qurratulain Haider, born January 20, 1927 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, † August 21, 2007 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh ) was an Indian writer. She was one of the leading writers in Urdu.

Hyder began with eleven years to write. After the partition of India in 1947, she went to Pakistan, but returned after a few years back to India. Her work includes twelve novels. The most famous is Aag ka dariya ( River of Fire ), and numerous short stories. Tenor of many books was the pain that caused the partition of India. She has received several Indian literary awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award (1967) and the Jnanpith Award ( 1989). She has been awarded the Padma Shri.

Hyder died in 2007 after a long illness.
