The Radegast is a left tributary of the Stepenitz. It rises in Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania in Mecklenburg County North West, just south of Gadebusch in open fields. Description

The Radegast has a run length of about 34 km. The water catchment area of ​​the Radegast covers an area of ​​approximately 190 km ². It ranges in the south to the area Krembz / Great Salitz ( Besides running Ellerbæk ), in the east to Vietlübber See ( Besides running Seegraben ) and in the northwest to Roduchelstorf. The biggest addition is the Tiene run with a sub-basin of approximately 40 km ². Major tributaries are the creek from Wakenstädt (2nd source inflow ), the Ellerbæk, the Stresdorfer Bach, the Tiene, the Cords Winkelbäk and Hagen Bach. Besides the natural inflows, the Radegast is fed by a variety of sources in the field of Talrandes as well as through affiliated ditches and drains.

South of the road to Wakenstädt to 2006, a longer section of the Radegast was cased and uncased portions severely straightened still. After a restoration project a naturally meandering stream bed was again created, so that the entire source area is close to nature again formed.

To the north of the city Neddersee Gadebusch the Radegast is still straightened strong. After crossing the Neddersees the Radegast flowing quite strongly meandering north on Rehna after Börzow where the river empties into the Stepenitz.

Watershed

The headwaters of the Radegast is located on the North Sea - Baltic Sea watershed: While the Radegast flows in a northerly direction across the Stepenitz and the Travelodge to the Baltic Sea, the water reaches the shields, just East just a few hundred meters further ( south ), on the Schaale, brews and Elbe the North Sea.

Conservation

The Radegast has been designated as a nature reserve Radegasttal by the State of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern. As FFH (Fauna -Flora- Habitat) is part of the European Natura 2000 network.
