Radimichs

The Radimitschen or Radimitschi (Russian Радимичи, Belarusian Радзімічы ) was a ostslawischer trunk between the upper Dnieper and Desna. Their territories bordered on the south by the Sewerjanen, on the west by the Dregowitschen, in the north and in the east the Kriwitschen Wjatitschen. It is believed that the tribal name goes back to a leader named Radim.

According to some chronicles the Radimitschen as well as the Wjatitschen originally came from the western Slavic countries. To 885 they were part of the Kievan Rus. The territory of Radimitschen was associated by the waterways and its central location is good with most parts of the Kievan Rus. To 984 they attempted an uprising against Kiev, but were beaten by the Holy Prince Vladimir. The last mention of Radimitschen dates back to 1169th After the disintegration of Kievan Rus were their territories with the Principality of Chernigov and partly with the Principality of Smolensk.
