Radoslav Svoboda

Radoslav Svoboda ( born December 18, 1957 in Brno, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current coach. His son Petr Svoboda was also a professional hockey player.

Career

Radoslav Svoboda began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior section of TJ Ingstav Brno, for which he was active from 1974 to 1977 in the first ČNHL, the second Czechoslovak league, and the first league. After a year at VTJ Pisek in the first league, played the defender from 1978 to 1986 for their league rivals Dukla Jihlava ASD. With the army sports club from Jihlava he was in the years 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985, four times in a row Czechoslovakian champion. For the 1986/87 season he returned to his hometown and played for the TJ Zetor Brno in the first league. The season 1987/88 he spent at Esbjerg IK in the Danish Elite series. With the team he immediately won the Danish championship. He was honored as the best defender of the Elite series. In the 1988/89 season, he was again in Esbjerg under contract. In the 1991/92 season he ran for the second team of the EC Graz in the National League, the second highest Austrian Hockey League, on. Last played from the Czech Republic from 1992 to 1994 for the National League participants UEC Mödling, before he ended his active career at the age of 36 years.

From 1999 to 2002 Svoboda worked as an assistant coach at his former club HC Dukla Jihlava in the Czech second division. For the season 2002/ 03 he took over the position as head coach of HC Zdar nad Sázavou from the third-rate second národní hokejová league. During the season 2003/ 04 he was short with his former club HC Kometa Brno active as an assistant coach in the first league. From 2005 to 2007, he oversaw the third division HHK Velké Meziříčí as head coach. He then spent a year in the same function responsible for the equally mediocre playing HC ZUBR Přerov. From 2008 to 2010 he was an assistant coach at second division HC Rebel Havlíčkův Brod. In the season 2010/11 he was the assistant coach at HC Vrchlabí from the first league contract. However, at the end of the season the club went into bankruptcy. Accordingly, for 2011/12 season, he took an engagement as head coach at third division TJ sršni Kutná Hora.

Internationally

For Czechoslovakia Svoboda took part in the World Championships 1982, 1983 and 1985. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and the 1981 Canada Cup. At the World Championships in 1982 and 1983 as well as at the Olympic Winter Games in 1984 he won the silver at the World Cup 1985, the gold medal with his team.
