Ralph Dacre, 1st Baron Dacre

Ralph Dacre, 1st Baron Dacre also Randolf de Dacre (* 1290 in Haworth Castle, Yorkshire, † before April 20, 1339 ) was an English military officer and politician.

Family and career

Dacre was born as the son of Sir William de Dacre and his wife Joan Gernet. He married Margaret de Multon 1315, daughter of Thomas de Multon, Lord Multon. With her he had three sons. Between 1318 and 1338 he was a member of the armed forces of the English crown. During this time he participated in several battles in Scotland in the army of Edward II. For his military achievements, he was awarded by decree of 15 May 1321 title Lord Dacre. The following year, Dacre became a member of the English Parliament. 1330 he was also appointed as the Sheriff of Cumberland, a post which he held until 1335. In the same year he was appointed by Edward III. also the constable of Carlisle Castle. The family went to his death initially on his wife and after her death to the sons. The first title was inherited by his eldest son William.
