Raman (crater)

7.77

Raman is a small impact crater on the moon northwestern front in the plane of Oceanus Procellarum, north-east of the crater Schiaparelli and northwest of Herodotus. West of Raman are the high ridges of Dorsa Burnet, in the north are the Montes Agricola.

The crater is moderately eroded. The edge is superimposed to the southwest from a smaller crater, so that the crater shape appears overall oval.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the Indian physicist CV Raman.
