Rappensee

The Rappensee (also Big Rappensee ) is a Bavarian high mountain to 2047 meters above sea level in the central main ridge of the Allgäu Alps. He is the main lake in a cirque hollow with several lakes, including the Small Rappensee.

Location

It is located 506 meters north underneath the lying on the German -Austrian border Rappenseekopfes ( 2468 m), near Einödsbach and Oberstdorf. It is located in a cirque hollow, the south ring from the mountains Small Rappenkopf ( 2276 m ), high Rappenkopf ( 2424 m), Rappenseekopf, Hochgundspitze ( 2460 m), Rotgundspitze ( 2485 m) and linker head ( 2459 m) is dominated. To the north the trough of the elevation of the Seebichels ( 2111 m) is made at the Rappenalptal out.

The lake is located in the municipality of Oberstdorf and is the southernmost lake in Germany.

Description

The 240 meters long and 150 meters wide, 2.3 acre lake with a maximum water depth of about eight meters drained via the Seebach in the black horse Alps Bach, who forms the Stillach after the confluence with the Bacher Lochbach. It thus belongs to the river system of the Danube and Iller.

Small Rappensee

200 meters northeast of the Grand Sable Lake is the little Rappensee. It is located directly below the Rappenseehütte ( 2091 m) at an altitude of 2070 meters. It is about 70 meters long and 65 meters wide and covers an area of approximately 0.3 hectares. The Little Rappensee not drained to the Great Rappensee, but to the north, east past the Rappenseehütte, in a waterfall over the rocky Gamswand cents to stream, which flows as well as the Seebach in the black horse Alpbach.
