Ray Norton

Otis Ray Norton ( born September 22, 1937 in Tulsa ) is a former American track and field athlete who was successful in the disciplines 100 meter dash and 200 -meter run in the late 1950s. He started for the State University of San Jose.

Career

He was able to record at the Pan American Games in 1959 in Chicago, his greatest success, where he more than 100 m in 10.3 seconds gold before Mike Agostini ( 10.4 s ) and Enrique Figuerola ( 10.5 s ) won.

Ray Norton equalized several times a world record:

  • 9.3 s over 100 y (1958 and 1960)
  • 10.1 s over 100 m ( 1959)
  • 20.6 s over 200 m (1959 and 1960 a total of four times )
  • 20.5 s over 200 m ( 1960)

He won four Amateur Athletic Union and the National Collegiate Athletic Association championship:

He participated in the XVII. Summer Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 in part, however, had three times unlucky: About 100 m and 200 m, it was in 10.50 s ( Armin Hary wins time: 10.32 s ) and 21.09 s ( the Italian Livio Berruti wins time: 20.62 s ) each sixth, and as a member of the winning 4x100m relay team, he was disqualified.

Norton had a competition weight of 81 kg at a height of 1.88 m. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996.
