Ray Phiri

Raymond Chikapa Phiri ( born March 23, 1947 in Herman Hill near Mbombela ) is a South African fusion and Mbaqangamusiker (guitar, vocals).

Phiri, whose originating from Malawi father was a guitarist playing guitar since 1962. He belonged in the 1970s to the founding members of the Cannibals, where he remained until its dissolution in 1981. Then he founded the band Stimela, with whom he was very successful. He became internationally known for his collaboration with Paul Simon in his Graceland project and the follow-up album Rhythm of the Saints. He also appeared in the subsequent concerts, including the free concert on 15 August 1991 in Central Park in front of about 600000-750000 listeners. In 1992, he released his solo album People Do not talk so Let's Talk.
