Stimela

Stimela (English: Steam locomotive ) is a company established in 1982 by Ray Phiri South African Mbaqanga group. It became the most successful band in the country. All albums reached gold or even platinum status.

The mid-1980s heard Paul Simon recordings of Stimela and invited the band in 1986 to the sessions for his upcoming Graceland project, which helped the Mbaqanga sound to international fame.

Stimela won several South African Music Awards, last two SAMA Awards 2011.
