After two years he moved his father Bohemond III. However, the right to have his heirs near him and ordered him back to Antioch. In its place was Raymond's younger brother Bohemond IV of Antioch used as Bohemond I of Tripoli.

When his father was in 1193 fall into the captivity of Prince Leo II in the fight against the Principality of Armenia Minor, he took over until his return in 1194 the regency in Antioch. In order to end the crisis with the Armenian neighbors, he married Alix of Armenia in 1195, Leo's niece, daughter of Ruben III. and Isabella of Toron. The couple had a son, Raimund II Ruben ( * 1199, † 1221 ). Raymond died in the year of the birth of his son, his widow married a year later Vahram of Korykos.

Thus he had died before his father, so that after his death in 1201 his brother inherited as Bohemond IV of Antioch, the Principality.
