Raymond Plant, Baron Plant of Highfield

Raymond Plant, Baron Plant of Highfield FKC ( born March 19, 1945) is a British Labour Party politician and life peer in the British House of Lords

Life and career

Plant attended Havelock School Grimsby and King's College London in 1966 until he went to the University of Hull. He is currently a Professor of Jurisprudence and Political Philosophy at King's College London and Professor of Divinity at Gresham College after he worked as a master at St Catherine 's College, Oxford from 1994 to 2000. He is an honorary member of the Harris Manchester College, Oxford. Before moving to Oxford he was Professor of European Politics at the University of Southampton; before that he was a lecturer in philosophy at the University of Manchester.

He became a Life Peer in 1992.

Plant from 2004 to 2007 Member of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics which deals with bioethical issues. In the House of Lords, he is a member of a committee on human rights. He is a member of the government and is working on a bill in the subcommittee of the Committee on the European Communities. He is the author of several books on political philosophy; also he is a canon in the cathedral of Winchester.
