Raze, Haute-Saône

Raze is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Raze is located at an altitude of 224 m above sea level, 9 km south-southeast of Scey -sur -Saône -et -Saint -Albin and 12 km west-southwest of Vesoul (air line). The scattered village extends in the central part of the department, in the valley of the Ruisseau de Vy- le- Ferroux south of Saônetals.

The area of ​​10:02 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the upper Saônebeckens. From east to west, the area is crossed by the valley of the Ruisseau de Vy- le- Ferroux, which provides for drainage Saône. West of the village several ponds were created, and the flat valley floor has boggy areas at various locations on. The valley is flanked by a plateau, which lies on both sides on average 240 m. This plateau consists of sandy- marly sediments of the Tertiary. The fertile soils are mainly used for agricultural purposes. Located in the outskirts larger forest areas: in the north of Grand Bois, east of the Bois du Chanois in which at 260 m is the highest elevation reached by Raze, and south of the Bois de la Baronne.

Neighboring communities of Raze are Traves and Aroz in the north, clans and Baignes in the east, Rosey and Neuvelle -lès- la Charité in the south and Noidans -le- Ferroux and Vy- le- Ferroux in the West.

History

Is first mentioned in the 12th century Raze. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government of the village had the commander of sales Montseugny, the Monastery of La Charité and a worldly gentleman stopped. Together with the Franche -Comté Raze came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Near the village has long been mined iron ore. Today Raze is a member of the comprehensive 22 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Combes.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Christophe was inaugurated in 1785. It has statues of St. Christopher (16th century), St. Anne and Mary (both 17th century). Another Christopher statue from the 16th century is located in the rectory. The former church of 1683 was converted into a residential building. The village is characterized by various houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. Additional points the Château des Roux from the 18th century, the pigeon-house of the old castle and the Fontaine- Lavoir count of 1828, which once served as well, wash and livestock watering.

Population

With 318 inhabitants ( 2006) belongs to Raze the small communities of the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 405 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded particularly during the 1980s again. Since 1999, however, is again observed a declining trend.

Economy and infrastructure

Raze was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Vesoul by Fresne- Saint- Mamès. Further road links exist with Traves, Aroz and Rosey.
