The Red River Gorge ( engl. = gorge gorge ) is part of a canyon system of the eponymous river in east central Kentucky in the United States.
A large part of its catchment area (113 km ² ) was bought as part of the Daniel Boone National Forest and declared a National Natural Landmark.
The environment is characterized by high sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and natural bridges 41.
The Red River Gorge has become due to the many very steep sandstone cliffs, a climbing area with worldwide attention.
