For a general understanding of Josef

John Paul II deepened and strengthened in this Circular, the statements of Quamquam pluris and goes very thoroughly for the position of St. Joseph in the church. It establishes the divine connection to Mary, whom he had already acknowledged in his encyclical Redemptoris Mater. He writes here:

" The first guardian of this divine mystery is Joseph, together with Mary. Together with Mary - and also in relation to Mary - he has, from the very beginning, participate in this crucial event of self- revelation of God in Christ. Now, if we have the reports of both evangelists, Matthew and Luke, in mind, we can also say that Joseph is the first who has part in the faith of the Mother of God, and that he thereby supports his wife in the belief in the divine proclamation. It is he who was asked by God to be first on the " pilgrimage of faith " in which Maria - especially since Calvary and Pentecost - in a perfect way, is preceded ( cf. Lumen Gentium, No. 63 and No. Dei Verbum 2) "

Of outstanding significance

The Pope emphasizes the crucial importance of St. Joseph out, which is justified by the marriage of Mary, because marriage is the highest degree of association and friendship with which its very nature a community of goods. It follows that God, when he gave Joseph the Virgin Mary for the man, you gave it to, not only as life companions, witnesses her virginity and protector of her honor, but also so that he share, through the marriage contract, in her own size (see Quamquam pluris )

Patronages

Like its predecessor, John Paul II described about the special patronage and appreciations of St. Joseph: So Sixtus IV had introduced the feast of St. Joseph, Pius IX. appointed to the patron saint of the Catholic Church, 1955 by Pius XII. May 1 additionally set as day " Joseph the Worker ", and John XXIII. Joseph had chosen as the patron saint of the Second Vatican Council.

100th " Quamquam pluris "

John Paul II, which finally remembered that Pope Leo XIII. was who had asked the Catholic faithful with the encyclical Quamquam pluris now one hundred years ago

" The protection of St. Joseph, Patron of the whole Church to pray. Since then, the Church implores - as I mentioned earlier - because of those sacred bonds of love that bound him to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, the protection of St. Joseph and recommended him all their troubles, even with regard to the threats that are on the whole human family.
