Refik Koraltan

Refik Koraltan (* 1890 in Divriği / Ottoman Empire, † 17 June 1974 ) was a Turkish politician and bureaucrat. Koraltan graduated in 1914 from the Faculty of Law at the Darülfünun and began to work as an official. He worked as a prosecutor and police chief. Koraltan worked during the Turkish War of Independence for the Kuvayı Milliye in Konya and was a deputy of Konya elected to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. He was Member of Parliament until 1935 without interruption. Koraltan was 1936-1938 Governor Artvins, 1938-1939 Governor of Trabzon and from 1939 to 1942 governor of Bursa. In 1942 he was elected a deputy of Bursa Province. Refik Koraltan one of the four founders of the particles formed in 1946, Democrat. In the parliamentary elections of 14 May 1950 he was elected deputy for the Democrat Parti and on 22 May 1950 to the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. He remained in this position until the Committee of National Unity staged a coup on 27 May 1960 and he was tried and convicted in the Yassıada processes. Later Koraltan was pardoned and retired from political life.
