Sadi Irmak

Sadi Irmak (* 1904 in Seydişehir, † November 11, 1990 in Istanbul ) was a Prime Minister of Turkey and professor of physiology.

Life

Irmak was born in the city of Konya Province Seydişehir in the Ottoman Empire. After completion of the University in Konya, he became a teacher of Biology. In the same year he gave up this job and moved to the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University.

In 1925 he went to Germany to study biology and medicine. After graduating Irmak worked as a doctor in hospitals in Copenhagen and Dusseldorf. Back in Turkey, he taught biology again. In 1933 he became docent at the Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University, 1939 Professor of Physiology there. He served between 7 June 1945 and August 5, 1946 as Minister of Labour in the Cabinet of Sukru Saracoglu. In 1974 he was elected to the Turkish Senate and commissioned in the same year by the President Fahri Korutürk to form the 38th cabinet. From 16 November 1974 to 31 March 1975, he served as Prime Minister. However, not managed to get the vote of confidence of Parliament. After the military coup on September 12, 1980, he was elected President of the Consultative Assembly. He held this office from 27 October 1981 until December 4, 1983.
