Reggiane Re.2008

The Reggiane Re.2008 was an Italian project for a single-seat fighter aircraft with jet engines.

History

The Re.2008 represented the culmination of a whole series of fighter aircraft of Reggiane that were developed by the development team to engineer Roberto Longhi. Had initially Longhi fighters how developed the Reggiane Re.2000 that were strongly influenced by his U.S. experience, the developments were highlights such as the Reggiane Re.2005, both Allied and German types in 1945 were at least as good. Consequently, also attracted the technology of the jet engine in his designs. So the Reggiane Re.2007 for the German Junkers Jumo 004 was developed.

The result is controversial history. There are construction plans and other documents relating to a development Re.2008. In particular, letters have been published, the Longhi wrote to Gianni Caproni ( the son of Giovanni Battista Caproni, chief of the Caproni works) on this project. Conversely, there are suspicions that much has been distorted thereof over time, to the denial of the existence of the Re.2008 project.

According to the documents Longhi the body of the Re.2007 has been largely maintained. The wings were given a sweep of 33 ° with variable depth. The armament was to consist of four 20- mm machine guns. Performance data were calculated for an engine with 2270 kp.

The project should not have been used to further investigate the financial viability because of doubts.
