Rejštejn

Rejštejn ( German sub rich stone) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located 31 kilometers south-west of Strakonice and belongs to Okres Klatovy. With 253 inhabitants, it is the fifth- smallest city in the Czech Republic.

Geography

Rejštejn is located at the confluence of Losenice ( Losnitz ) in the Otava in Šumava. To the south, the Rejštejn ( 848 m) rises with the rock Maierová skala ( Maier stone) and in the southwest of Radkovský vrch ( Rogauer mountain, 907 m).

Neighboring towns are Radešov and Opolenec in the north, Tuškov in the northeast, Kašperské Mountains in the east, U Gabriela and Lídlovy Dvory the southeast, Maly Kozi hrbet, Velky Kozi hrbet and Svojše in the south, Velky Babylon in the southwest, Klášterský Mlýn ( monastery mill), Maly Radkov and Velky Radkov in the west and Vatětice in the northwest.

History

Rejštejn was panning for gold settlement on the Otava. First mentioned the place was 1347th The Gold Mining the settlement grew into a town, the Rudolf II in 1584 gave the privileges of a royal mining town.

Through the Thirty Years War and the exhaustion of the deposits came in the 17th century the mining completely to a halt. As a new livelihood with the glass industry found its way. Initially, glass beads and then sheet glass were produced. In Klosterscheune Jean Baptist Eisner Eisenstein in 1836 founded a crystal glassworks, which was renamed later as Johann Loetz widow and became particularly through their iris glass to overseas fame. In the factory of Franz Watzlawik in Losnitztal stroller and wood products were manufactured.

Attractions
