Remich
Remich ( Luxembourgish Réimech ) is a city and a municipality in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg as well as the capital of the eponymous canton of Remich.
Remich lies on the western banks of the Moselle, 10 km north of the border triangle Germany / France / Luxembourg ( Schengen).
The ancient Remacum Roman times was formerly a small settlement of fishermen and boatmen. It has been repeatedly laid down the centuries of the respective conquerors of the Moselle region in ruins, reflecting the building of protective walls made it necessary, traces of which can still be seen.
Today is Remich - situated on the route Saarbrücken Europe - Luxembourg - a small, thriving tourist town and - as a canton capital - administrative and shopping center of the canton of the same name. Above all, Remich is the center of the Luxembourg wine-growing with the seat of the Institute Viti - Vinicole and the Marque nationale for Luxembourg wines.
The panorama of the city is dominated by vineyards and dense forests that surrounded Remich like an amphitheater.
On the banks of the Moselle invites a three-kilometer long promenade to watch the numerous over -propelled barges and yachts. There is also the Bacchus fountain of the Luxembourg artist Wil Lofy.
On Ash Wednesday, a special custom is committed: By burning a straw doll on the Mosel bridge, the carnival is terminated. According to the original custom, the flames to banish evil spirits of winter and welcome the spring. The straw doll is called " Stréimännchen "; in leap years " Stréifrächen " ( Strohfrauchen ) is burned.
Policy
In the municipal election on 9 October 2011, the list of CSV won with 33.81 percent of the vote four seats, the Greens with 33.58 percent four mandates, the DP with 19.51 percent, two mandates and the LSAP with 13,09 percent mandate.
The municipality is a member of the following local organizations: SIAER, SICEC, SIGI, SIGRE, Syndicat de distribution de l' eau Remich, Syvicol.
