Features

The dextral body of representatives of the genus Renea are 1.8 to 6.3 mm high and 0.6 to 2.0 mm wide. They are cylindrical and have up to seven turns. The last whorl rises somewhat. The housings are ribbed tight, between the ribs are very weak spiral grooves to recognize those who are a little more clearly in only two species. For all species no seam edge is formed. Some species have a heavily modified convolution, which can lead behind the mouth and adjacent to the suture to the formation of a " breathing hole " (with Renea singularis ). A neck ridge is not or only weakly developed.

The whitish translucent body is in relation to housing comparatively small and slender. The head is offset by an angle to the edge of the sole furrow from the neck. The sole is edged by a weaker and a stronger longitudinal furrow formed by the body. At the top of the muzzle is far vorstreckbar. The thread-like antennae are long and can be completely withdrawn. The cover on the rear part of the foot is quite large and has 2 ½ to 2 ¾ whorls on.

The animals are dioecious. The comparatively few eggs, which are deposited by the females, are very large in proportion to body size.

Similar genera

The genus Renea differs from the other genera of the Mulmnadeln ( Aciculidae ) as follows: the species of the genus Platyla are smooth, without sculpture. The genus acicula has only radial grooves, species of the genus Menkia next radial grooves and spiral grooves. However, both genera have no radial ribs.

Geographical distribution

The distribution of Renea types ranging from the French and Italian Alps, the northern Italian Alps, northern Apennines, through Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to Montenegro and Albania. In addition an island- like area in the Austrian states of Upper Austria and Salzburg.
