Renzo Rossellini (composer)

Renzo Rossellini ( born February 2, 1908 in Rome, † May 13, 1982 in Monte Carlo, Monaco ) was an Italian composer, musician and musicologist.

Life

Rossellini studied in Rome and composition ( with B. Molinari ) conducting. In 1933 he received the post of Director at the Liceo Musicale Giovanni Baptista Pergolesi in Varese, in 1940, he became a teacher of composition at Rome; 1970 finally director of the Opera of Monte Carlo. In addition to his active musical activity Rossellini was also active as a music critic for the daily newspaper Il Messaggero.

His brother was the film director and composer Roberto Rossellini, his niece, the actress Isabella Rossellini. For Roberto Rossellini, he wrote the soundtrack for numerous films (including Rome, Open City, Paisà, Stromboli, Travel in Italy)

Works

Rossellini has written numerous ballets, oratorios, cantatas, four operas (La Guerra (1956 ), Il vortice (1958), Uno sguardo dal ponte (1961 ), L' Annonce faite à Marie ( 1970) ), symphonies, chamber music, songs and film scores.
