Reproduction is the debut album by British synthpop band The Human League.

Genesis

After the single Being Boiled and the EP The Dignity of Labour left the band on the advice of manager Bob load the label Fast Records. A & R manager Simon Draper undertook The Human League then for Virgin Records.

The rhythm tracks for the album were recorded in July 1979 in the workshop in Sheffield by the band itself. Co-producer Colin Thurston, who had recently completed with Magazines Second Hand Daylight his first album as a producer, production completed by overdubs and mixing in the Red Bus Studios in London. In addition to his own compositions, the band coverte also the song You've Lost That Lovin ' Feelin ' by Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil and Phil Spector, had a number one hit in the United States with The Righteous Brothers in February 1965.

Texts

The lyrics written by Philip Oakey Almost Medieval was influenced by Philip K. Dick's 1969 novel Ubik to published. The lyrics written by Martyn Ware Blind Youth directed against the propagated by James Graham Ballard dehumanization as they about the same time by Gary Numan (The Pleasure Principle, 1979) and John Foxx ( Metamatic, 1980) was processed in their lyrics.

John Bush emphasized in his review for the music database Allmusic, the numbness of the album: "The trio of Ian Craig Marsh, Martyn Ware, and Philip Oakey all handled vocals and synthesizers to create a set of grim, rigid tracks did revealed a Greater lack of humanity than even Kraftwerk. The album was mastered by Simon Heyworth 2003 at Super Audio Mastering and digitally re- released with bonus tracks in eight EMI Virgin. The bonus tracks include as ' designated almost version ( published at Fast Records) versions of single Being Boiled and Circus of Death and the four-part EP The Dignity of Labour.
