Human is a song by British synthpop band The Human League in 1986, which was written and produced by American producer duo of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The song was coupled out in the summer of 1986 as a single from the album Crash and reached the top chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and # 5 on the Media Control Charts.

Background

The collaboration with the producer Chris Thomas and Hugh Padgham on the album Hysteria did not bring the expected commercial success, so Virgin Records first Colin Thurston suggested by the creative break for the band 's next album as a producer. First Sessions in 1985 for the new album went but without result. Jo Callis then left the band in the direction of Feargal Sharkey and was replaced by Jim Russell. In addition, The Human League had with the label due to the lack Armed idea. Virgin sent the band to the United States to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who had just brought Janet Jackson Control on track.

The recordings were completed as an engineer in the Flyte Time Studios in Minneapolis with Steve Hodge, before further recordings to the session musicians and the creative contribution from outside the band were impossible by a violent dispute between the band and the producer. The album was mixed there.

The recorded for the album version was shortened for the single release to a length of 3:48 minutes and published on 21 August 1986. After Do not You Want Me Human is the second and so far last number -one hit of the band in the United States.

Content

Human is a new wave ballad, which is about a couple that has reunited after a separation. The role of the man as well as a large part of the song, sang Phil Oakey. The part in which the couple reconciled, can be seen in the lines and Only Human Born to Make Mistakes.

Music Video

The director of the music video, which was filmed in 1986 using blue screen technology in a studio in London, led Andy Morahan. It shows the band in front of a blue background with water effects.

Reception

The Billboard Magazine discusses crash in August 1986 with the words: "While the band lacks the depth of talent did Jackson Displayed, there are several strong shots for radio here, most notably, human ',' The Real Thing 'and, Love Is All that Matters.
