History

To date, the U -21 Ireland could still qualify for no -aligned by UEFA tournament.

In qualifying for the 2006 European Championship, the team had to deal with in the qualifying round 3 with France, Switzerland, Israel and Cyprus. There were earned with a goal difference of 10:14 five points. The team thus landed on the fourth and last place, in Cyprus. Against the southern Europeans a game was won and played one draw. Another draw earned the team against the Israeli selection. Against group winners France, the Irish missed twice just one success at a 0:1 and a 1:2 defeat.

Since, according to the 2006 European Championships in 2007, the next European Championship, and should not, as usual, be held every two years, this qualification has been played in a summary trial. Starting with a preliminary round, over a short group stage with three teams and play- off matches. In a preliminary round, according to statistics, poorer teams, the Irish had to qualify for the short group stage. On May 11th and 18th 2006, the team went to the team from Azerbaijan. During the first leg could be won with 2-1, won the team on home ground safe and pulled out a 3-0 in the group stage. They were followed from Greece and Belgium were not randomly assigned. There was only one game against each team, so the team had ever even take away and even had home advantage. In the first game the island footballers against Greece won 2-0 and took the first step towards the play-offs. However, the second game was lost 0-1 against Belgium, so that the Irish had to hope on the final day to help Protect the Greeks. But even there the Belgians put through and placed on the first place in the group of four.

In qualifying for the 2009 European Championship, the U-21 Junior of Ireland with the teams from England, Portugal, Montenegro and Bulgaria had to deal with. From eight games managed just one win and two draws. Five games were lost by a goal difference of 4:14. It was the only success on 20 November 2007 against the Bulgarian team, as the Irish won thanks to a goal from John Joe O'Toole in the 90th minute of stoppage time 1-0. On the final day managed a 2-2 draw against Portugal. Scored twice for the Green-Whites was Owen Garvan. Most other games were just lost. The highest defeat gave it 0-3 to England.
