Rethera

Rethera is a genus within the family of butterfly moth ( Sphingidae ).

Features

The compound eyes are ciliated excessively long. The labial palps are blunted and rounded bottom and sides. The antennae are thickened club-shaped at the end and are hook-shaped curved quite short of the tip. The last link of the sensor is short and not long and fine, with the males only traces of hair can be seen. The epiphysis to the rails ( tibiae ) of the front legs extend over the tips of the tibiae addition. The middle and posterior tibiae are bespornt unequal, the long spur is less than half as long as the first Tarsenglied. The first Tarsenglied of the hind legs is longer than the tibiae of the central pair of legs and about the same length as the tibia of hind legs. Pulvilli and Paronychia missing.

All preimaginal stages are known only from Rethera komarovi. The eggs are large, egg-shaped and have a shiny blue-green coloration. They wear white, after a few days brown coloring, egg closing line. The caterpillars have a small head capsule. Your body is tapered to the front, the head and the first two segments of the thorax in the third thoracic segment and the first abdominal segment may be revoked. In the last stage, the crawler Analhorn is not formed. The stigmata on the first to eighth abdominal segment are provided with eye patch. On the sides of each abdominal segment run out of focus defined, oblique lines. The pupa is dark brown, shining strong. The proboscis is fused with the body and forms a forward -tion of the genus Hippo similar Auskrümmung, however, is not laterally flattened. The big cremaster ends in a sting pair.

Way of life

The caterpillars feed mainly on herbaceous plants of the Rubiaceae ( Rubiaceae ).
