Reverend Bizarre

Reverend Bizarre were a Finnish doom metal group.

Band History

The band was founded in 1994 in Lohja. After Albert Magus, Peter and Vicar Juippi had finished their military service, Vicar had to move in the fall of 1997 to Turku. At the same time Juippis impaired consumption of stimulants whose playing technique.

In the summer of 1998 Magus moved to Turku and led Reverend Bizarre continue with Vicar. To complete their occupation they recorded Earl of Void, who had recently been released from prison and had already played with Magus. They played the demo recording Slice of Doom in three days ( 16th, 17th and 23 August 1999), and sent them in the hope of a record deal to some record companies.

Originally five albums were planned. On August 17, 2007, the Group MySpace announced its dissolution after their last studio album So Long Suckers. However, the end of September 2007, they announced the recording and publication of several recordings.

After the end of Reverend Bizarre, the band members concentrated on their other bands and projects. Albert Witchfinder operates since 2005 The Puritan, where he and two fellow musicians all ideas that were intended for Reverend Bizarre converts. Stylistically, this band goes towards depressive Doom Metal. With Armanenschaft and Azrael Rising, he runs two other black -metal- oriented projects ( Reverend Bizarre had some pieces from the black metal field such as Burzum darkness and Barathrums Dark Sorceress ( Autumn Siege ) gecovert and wanted before the resolution originally Cover of Judas Iscariot and Sigh record ). In addition, since 2009 he is at Spiritus Mortis, the first doom metal band from Finland ever active, which musically rather goes in the direction of the classic Reverend Bizarre sound. Opium Warlords, however, is a solo project in which Albert Witchfinder is responsible for all instruments and singing, in which he slow Drone Doom with a little song and nearly drum-less sound patterns plays. In Orne he plays again with Peter and Vicar Earl of Void, even if Albert Witchfinder, who took over the vocals for the first album and this is expected to contribute for the second album, does not look as a permanent member of the band. The group was originally founded in 1997 by Peter Vicar as a side project. Stylistically Orne occur in the paths of the occult, playful 1970s skirt with Hammond organ and flute, who, despite the common participation of all three previous Reverend Bizarre members hardly anything to do with the music of Reverend Bizarre. Peter Vicar started in 2007, the band Lord Vicar, in which even Christian Lindersson, the first singer of the Swedish doom metal band Count Raven, who was also active with Saint Vitus, is involved.

Style of music and texts

Reverend Bizarre saw himself in the tradition of bands like Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Witchfinder General, Trouble and The Obsessed. The "dramatic " baritone vocals reminiscent of later works of Saint Vitus, in conjunction with fuzz guitar sound, " pounding " drums and long " tragic " pieces is their debut album, according to Travis from Webzine Diabolical Conquest one of the " purest expressions in modern traditional Doom Metal " dar. content, Reverend Bizarre dealt with tried and true themes including biblical ( with " include malicious Christian overtones " ) and historical fragments; According to Travis, they were after the debut album " presumptuous ironic, retro and self-aware ."
