Rhadi Ben Abdesselam

Rhadi Ben Abdesselam ( born February 28, 1929 in Ksar -es- Sauk; † 4 October 2000 in Fes ) was a Moroccan long-distance runner, who reached his greatest success in cross country and marathon.

In the Cross of Nations, a forerunner of the existing competition since 1973 official World Cross Country Championships, Rhadi occupied in 1958 to 15th place in 1959 to 8th place. In 1960 he won the competition before the Belgian Gaston Roelants.

In the 1960 Olympics he finished in the 10,000 - meter race in 14th place 29:34,4 minutes. Two days later, on September 10, 1960, he participated in his first and only marathon and won silver after 2:15,41,6 minutes behind the Ethiopian Abebe Bikila. Rhadi was the first Olympic medalist Morocco.

In 1962 he again took 10th place at the Nations Cross.

His best time in the 10,000 meters of 29:20,8 minutes comes from his successful 1960. This year he reached the 19,907 hour run meters. At a height of 1.80 m his competition weight was 65 kg.
