The Rheine- Bentlage until 2012 Army Airfield is a military airbase of the Luftwaffe in the North Rhine -Westphalian Rheine, district Bentlage.

On the site, the Theodor- Blank -Kaserne is the decades the medium transport helicopter regiment 15 of the German Army -based. This gave its aircraft on January 1, 2013, the Air Force and was dissolved on 30 June 2013.

History

In 1939 was begun in Bentlage with the construction of an air force base, which you completed it in 1940. During the Second World War, many day and night missions were flown from here. Equipment

The Transport Helicopter Regiment 15 had 5 easy connection helicopter BO 105 VBH and 37 medium transport helicopter CH- 53G and GS. The GE version is expected for the end of 2009. Since the end of 2011 no BO 105 more available in stock. Previously also Alouette II and Sikorsky S -58 were in use. A Sikorsky S -58 stood as a monument at the entrance of the barracks.

The airfield has a small, about 500 meters long paved runway, and runway in a west-east orientation.

By 2017, some changes in the value of approximately 100 million euros to be held on the airfield and in the 40- year-old site. For example, the barracks should be modernized, renewed the fence and built more hangars and expanded existing ones, so that upcoming work on the CH -53 in the open air would no longer need to partially take place. However, it was announced in October 2011 that the airfield of the Bundeswehr is to be abandoned.
