Richard Böhm

Richard Böhm ( born October 1, 1854 in Berlin, † March 27, 1884 in Katapana, Katanga ) was a German zoologist and explorer.

He was the son of Ludwig Böhm and Frances Louise, born Meyer Linck. He studied at the Friedrich -Schiller- University Jena Zoology, Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919) and received his doctorate in 1877. Thereafter, he went on an expedition to the region of Zanzibar and reached the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, to the southeast of the Upembasees, he discovered (1880 -1884 ).

His correspondence was published in 1888 under the title From Zanzibar to Lake Tanganyika. Böhm was responsible for numerous articles in the Journal of Ornithology in the time from 1882 to 1887. He died of a malaria attack. Anton Reichenow (1847-1941) and Hermann Schalow (1852-1925) dedicated to him different bird species:

  • Böhm Rail, Sarothrura boehmi ( Reichenow 1900)
  • Bat sailors, Neafrapus boehmi ( Schalow 1882)
  • Böhm - Flycatcher, Muscicapa boehmi ( Reichenow 1884).
