Richard Ellis (politician)

Richard Ellis ( * February 14, 1781 in Lunenburg County, Virginia; † December 20, 1846 in Bowie County, Texas ) was an American politician.

Ellis, formerly a judge at the Supreme Court Alamaba settled in 1834 on the present territory of Texas. In 1836 he stood in front of the Convention on the independence of the Republic of Texas was declared by Mexico. According to him, Ellis County was named.
