Richard Newby, Baron Newby

Richard " Dick" Mark Newby, Baron Newby, of Rothwell in the County of West Yorkshire OBE ( born February 14, 1953) is a British civil servant, business managers and politicians of the Social Democratic Party ( SDP ) and the Liberal Democrats, who since 1997 Member the House of Lords.

Life

Administrative official, party official and business manager

Newby graduated after attending the School Rodillian a study of the combination of subjects Philosophy, Politic and Economics at St Catherine's College, University of Oxford, where he graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He began his career as a civil servant in 1974 at the Royal Administration of Customs and Excise ( HM Customs and Excise ) and was there between 1977 and 1979 private secretary to the First Secretary before he was last from 1979 to 1981 head of the planning unit. In the meantime, he completed a postgraduate course, which he finished with a Master of Arts (MA).

1981 Newby left the management service and acted instead 1981-1988 as National Secretary of the former by the Labour Party politicians Roy Jenkins, David Owen, Bill Rodgers and Shirley Williams newly formed Social Democratic Party. During this time he became involved with the Liberal Democrats and from 1996 to 1997 was director of external communications at their campaign team for the general election on 1 May 1997.

House of Lords member

Newby was raised by a Letters Patent dated 25 September 1997 as Life peer with the title Baron Newby, of Rothwell in the County of West Yorkshire in the peerage. On 15 October 1997 his Introduction ( Introduction) followed as a member of the House of Lords.

As such, he was both 1997-2010 Spokesman of the Group of the Liberal Democrats for the Treasury from 1999 to 2006 as chief of staff of Charles Kennedy, who was party leader of the Liberal Democrats at that time.

Lord Newby acted beyond 1999 to 2001 as director of the Flagship Group and since 2001 Chairman of Live Consulting, and since 2010 Chairman of Live Sport CIC. He is also since 2010 Co - Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Political Liberal Democrats and committed to searching as trustee of Coltstaple Trust and chairman of the organization International Development through Sport ( IDS).

On May 3, 2012, he was the successor of Lord Shutt of Greetland as Deputy Parliamentary Secretary ( Deputy Chief Whip ) of the Liberal Democrats in the upper house and as such carries the title of Captain of the Queen 's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard ).
