Richard Romanowsky

Richard Francis George Romanovsky (* April 21, 1883 in Vienna, † 22 July 1968 Steyr ) was an Austrian actor and comedian. He worked from 1931 to 1961 in over 40 German and Austrian feature films.

Life

The son of the railway officials Johann Romanovsky and his wife Henriette, nee Hofmeister, first worked as a fitter and wood sculptor. After acting lessons he received in 1905 a commitment at the German National Theatre in Vienna, Czernowitz, 1906 at the Municipal Theatre Znojmo, then in Linz, Graz and 1912 at the Deutsches Theater in Prague. In 1924 he played in Vienna and from 1925 in Berlin at various theaters, including the Deutsches Theater. In the 1930s he returned to Vienna, where he was hired by Max Reinhardt at the Theater in der Josefstadt and he was 1925/26 and 1930/31 Cast Member.

As in the theater Romanovsky was mostly used in the film as a rather comic figure. Whether as a prince in The Ammenkönig or, more commonly, as a subaltern employee, he played repeatedly Edge, acting through clumsiness on the one hand and excessive bravado on the other hand amusing.

In 1954 he had to undergo because of an eye condition of an operation that was successful. On April 18, 1958, he received on the occasion of his 75th birthday, the Medal of Honor of the Federal capital Vienna.

Richard Romanowsky was married to Gabriele Maria Antonia funeral since 1912.

Romanowsky lived for many years in the permanent SPA Sanatorium country [note 1], Bad Hall, where he met with an accident on 15 July 1968 at the consequences it a week later in the State Hospital Steyr died .. His final resting place is situated on the Tabor Cemetery in the town of Steyr in Upper Austria.
