Richard Turnbull (colonial governor)

Sir Richard Gordon Turnbull GCMG (* July 7, 1909 in St Albans, † December 21, 1998 in Cirencester, Gloucestershire ) was a British colonial official.

Major offices

On 15 July 1958 he was Governor of Tanganyika. Along with the independence of Tanganyika on December 9, 1961 he was Governor General and Julius Nyerere as Prime Minister of the country. After the Republic was founded on December 9, 1962 President Nyerere and thus new head of state of Tanganyika.

Of 21 December 1964 to 22 May 1967 he was High Commissioner of the South Arabian Federation.
