Rien Poortvliet

Marius Harm "Rien " Poortvliet ( born August 7, 1932 in Schiedam, † September 15, 1995 in Soest ) was a Dutch painter and draftsman. He is considered one of the world's best painter of animals and hunting scenes and was the most famous painter of the Netherlands in the last decades of the 20th century. His subjects were next hunting scenes and landscapes, pets and everyday situations.

Rien Poortvliet was the son of Zacharias Poortvliet and the oldest of four brothers.

His artistic talent was already apparent at a young age. However, his devout Protestant parents did not know that he went to an art school, and so he started after school at first at an advertising agency.

Poortvliet then began to illustrate some books and even post later ones that have been dominated by his drawings, which he inflicted brief descriptions and anecdotes. He gained international fame in 1976 with the co-authors Wil Huygen with the book Leven en works van de Kabouter (1978 in German under the title The Big Book of brownies ). Based on the animated television series David the Kabauter was developed.

Rien Poortvliet was married to Corrie Bouman, they had two sons.
