Rigi Railways

Rigi railways AG ( RB) is a railway company in Switzerland with headquarters in Arth. The operational headquarters of the company is located in Vitznau.

The company was founded in 1992 by the merger of the Arth -Rigi Bahn (ARB ) in Arth and the " Rigi " in Vitznau, which included the Vitznau- Rigi -Bahn (VRB ) and the cable car from Weggis to Rigi cold bath ( LWRK ). The " Rigi Railways AG " has since operated the two standard gauge rack railways ARB and ARB and the cable car LWRK on the Rigi, a scenic mountain on Lake Lucerne.

The network of RB measures 15.40 km and is traversed by two railway lines, which correspond to the former operation of the Vitznau- Rigi -Bahn and the Arth- Rigi -Bahn. A crossover of the VRB to ARB is to Rigi Staffel until the 12th July 1990.

The standard gauge track of the Vitznau- Rigi -Bahn measures 6.85 kilometers and is electrified at 1500 V DC. On the entire route length a rack comes after Riggenbach system used. The property line of Vitznau to Rigi Staffel height, on the border between the Canton of Lucerne and the Canton of Schwyz, was opened on May 23, 1871. The continuation of the Staffelhöhe to Kulm, however, was built by the ARB and leased to the VRB from 27 June 1873. With the merger of the two companies accounted in 1992 for this scheme.

The standard gauge track of the Arth -Rigi -Bahn measures 8.55 kilometers and is electrified at 1500 V DC. On the entire route length a rack comes after Riggenbach system used. The property line from Arth -Goldau station until after Rigi Kulm was opened on June 4, 1875. The same was opened as a pure adhesion railway route from Arth am See to Arth -Goldau was operated as overland tram separated and already set the end of August 1959.
