Rinconada Department

The department Rinconada is one of 16 administrative units in the province of Jujuy in northwestern Argentina. Rinconada is bordered to the north by the departments of Santa Catalina and Yavi, on the east by the department of Cochinoca, to the south by the Departamento Susques and on the west by Bolivia. The capital of the department is the same Rinconada.

Geography

On the territory of the department are the Lagunas de Vilama or Reserva Provincial altoandina de la Chinchilla, a group of small lakes on the Argentine Puna.

Population

According to the last census, the Departamento Rinconada 2298 inhabitants ( INDEC, 2001). According to estimates by the INDEC, the population has risen to 2430 inhabitants in 2005.
