When she became an honorary citizen of Addis Ababa in 2005, she was quoted as saying that the remains of Bob Marley exhumed and reburied should be in Ethiopia, Haile Selassie's home. This triggered in Jamaica excitement and indignation. The Rita Marley apparently intended exhumation, however, was misrepresented. There was never any plans to exhumation.
