Rita Marley

Alpha Rita Marley Constantia Anderson, better known as Rita Marley ( born July 25, 1946 in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba ) is a Jamaican reggae musician of Cuban origin. She is the widow of Bob Marley and the mother of Sharon, Cedella, Ziggy, Stephen and Stephanie Marley.

Rita Marley grew up in Kingston in Trenchtown. She was a member of the band The Soulettes until 1974, together with Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths Bob Marley & the Wailers, the background vocal trio I- Threes formed, with which it still occurs today. After the death of her husband she manages her legacy and it came to disputes with his former producer several times and produced more albums of his own.

Rita Marley now lives in Ghana. When she became an honorary citizen of Addis Ababa in 2005, she was quoted as saying that the remains of Bob Marley exhumed and reburied should be in Ethiopia, Haile Selassie's home. This triggered in Jamaica excitement and indignation. The Rita Marley apparently intended exhumation, however, was misrepresented. There was never any plans to exhumation.

On 2 July 2005 Rita Marley came to the worldwide Live 8 benefit concert in Philadelphia at the side of her son Stephen and the Black Eyed Peas.
