River Coln

River Coln south of Coln St. Aldwyns

The River Coln is a small river in Gloucestershire (England). Its source is at Brockhampton, east of Cheltenham, from there it flows in a southeasterly direction to the Thames south west of Lechlade, where it unites with the Thames -Severn Canal ( Thames and Severn Canal ) at the Roundhouse footbridge and along with this discharges into the River Thames.

In its course it crosses the Cotswolds Hills, past Chedworth, Withington, Bibury, Coln St. Aldwyns and Fairford. Between Fairford and Lechlade are large, now abandoned gravel pits along the river. Here the Cotswold Water Park, the lakes fed by the River Coln was born.

The river is rich in fish, particularly the stocks of brown trout and grayling ensure brisk sport fishing along its shores.
