River Leven, Cumbria

The estuary of the Leven in Ulverston

The River Leven [ lɛvvən ] is a river in Cumbria, England.

The Leven rises near Lakeside at the southern most point of Lake Windermere, which feeds him. The river flows 13 km in a south-easterly direction before it flows into Morecambe Bay. The river and its estuary are the boundary between the peninsulas of Furness and Cartmel. The influence of the tide on the river extends to the place Haverthwaite approach, and to where he is coming from the south navigable. In the north of the river between Windermere and Newby Bridge is navigable.

The only major tributary of the Leven is the Rusland Pool, which drains the Grizedale Forest and the Rusland Valley.

In Leven live salmon. The river is popular with kayakers, because it has between Newby Bridge and Haverthwaite difficulties from III to IV and is supplied by Lake Windermere consistently through the year with water.
