The Réserve écologique de la Rivière Rouge is furnished in 1997, 319.83 hectares of protected area in the southwest of the Canadian province of Quebec.

The area is located 4 km north- west of Calumet near the Rivière Rouge, which flows into the Ottawa. The nearest town is Lachute, a town which is situated 75 km north-west of Montreal. It belongs to the MRC Argenteuil ( Laurentides administrative region ) in the Laurentian Mountains.

The reserve is divided into three units, namely the average of 200 m higher than sea level plateau, the wave slope and to the river reaching terrace. Up to 180 m above sea level - as high up the water masses after melting of glaciers - there are layers of clay that are above the glacial boulder clay. Is found on the border of the protected area brown earth, in some places also Gley.

The better drained areas are dominated by sugar maple (Acer saccharum ), depending on the soil composition, accompanied by American linden (Tilia americana), American beech ( Fagus grandifolia ), and yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis ) occurs.
