It is one of the last ocean-going ships in the postal service of the British flag and was built in the years 1989/1990 at the shipyard Hall Russell & Company in Aberdeen specifically for this route and put into service. The St. Helena was both the final construction of the shipyard, and the last Seeschiffsneubau in Aberdeen. The ship broke its predecessor, the "old " RMS St. Helena from from 1963.

History

Until the 1960s, the island was started in the regular mail boat service from various vessels owned by Union - Castle Line, plying regularly commissioned by the state between England and South Africa. With the increasing air traffic, these lines have been set and to date, the RMS St. Helena is the only remaining ship calling at the island regularly from Cape Town, but the setting of the line is planned.
