Robert Alfonso
Robert Alfonso Acea Leodan ( born November 11, 1986 in Havana ) is a Cuban boxer. He was 2007 Pan-American champion in the super heavyweight ( over 91 kg body weight).
Career
Robert Alfonso began as a teenager with the boxes. He belongs since 2004 to the power center of Havana and in 2004 was Cuban junior champion in the heavyweight class (up to 91 kg body weight). In 2004 he also participated in the World Youth Championship in Jeju / South Korea partly in the heavyweight division. He won there over Murat Karatayev, Kazakhstan and Newfel Ouatah from France respectively on points, but lost in the semifinals against Evgeny Romanov of Russia, because he had to be taken because of an injury from combat. In 2004, he took even the Cuban Championship of seniors took part and after a semi-final defeat against world champions Odlanier Solís the 3rd place in the heavyweight division.
In 2005, he started back to the Cuban Championship of seniors. He arrived there in the heavyweight division in the quarter finals to a point win over José M. López. In the Cuban Cup 2006 Robert Alfonso lost in the heavyweight division in the quarterfinals against Reinier Hernandez and got away with it on the 5th Place. Winner of this championship was world champion Odlanier Solís, who shortly thereafter defected to Germany.
2007 joined Robert Alfonso in the super heavyweight division. It was in January this year then with a points victory ( 12:5 ) on the experienced Michel López first time Cuban champion in this weight class. Robert Alfonso won at the Pan American Games in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro in the super heavyweight Johnny Molina ( 18:6 ), Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Brazil and Oscar Rivas ( 8:4 ) and thus was Pan-American champion in the super heavyweight division. In January 2009, Alfonso was the third time in a row Cuban champion in the super heavyweight division.
