Robert Gillon

Robert Paul Raymond Gillon ( born December 10, 1884 in Kortrijk, West Flanders, Belgium, † July 25, 1972 ) was a Belgian writer, liberal politician and three-time President of the Belgian Senate.

Biography

After school he studied law at the University of Ghent and was after the doctorate in law as a lawyer in his native town of Kortrijk active.

In 1921, he began his political career as a liberal, even with the election of the member of the Provincial Council of West Flanders, where he remained until 1932.

He was co-opted in 1932 as a member of the Senate then, where he served 39 years until 1971. During this time he was three times President of the Senate and initially awarded on 26 April 1939 to 8 November 1947. For his service during the Second World War, he was already on September 3, 1945 in addition to some other politicians of the honorary title of Minister of State.

Between 8 November 1949 and the April 30, 1950 and on May 5, 1954 to April 29, 1958 he was again President of the Senate.

Gillon was also considered a great connoisseur of Spain and traveled among other things, by the beginning of the Spanish Civil War in Spain. Among his most important publications include:
