Robert Hoy

Robert Francis Hoy ( born April 3, 1927 in New York City, New York, † February 8, 2010 in Northridge, California ) was an American actor and stuntman.

Life

Hoy served during World War II in the Navy. From 1950 he worked as a stuntman in feature films and television series, mostly from the Western genre. Among the best known films in which he participated as a stuntman include Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest, Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus, and Clint Eastwood's The Texan. Overall, he was 44 years worked as a stuntman and was among others the double of Telly Savalas, Audie Murphy and Tony Curtis.

In addition to his work as a stuntman Hoy joined in 1950 as an actor in movies, until the late 1950s, but mostly in small supporting roles that were not called credits. After that, he was increasingly active for television and played guest roles in various television series, including the classic western series Bonanza, The Rifleman and at the foot of the Blue Mountains. Between 1967 and 1971 he played in 62 episodes of the series High Chaparral Cowboy Joe Butler. Between 1978 and 1982 he had a recurring guest role on the series Dallas.

Hoy was married and had a son. He died of cancer just a few weeks after he was awarded the Golden Boot Award.
