Robert Lewin (screenwriter)

Robert Lewin ( born May 9, 1920 in New York City; † August 28, 2004 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American screenwriter.

Life

Lewin graduated from Yale University and served during World War II in the U.S. Army. In the course of which he was also involved in fighting in Italy. Based on his experiences during this time he wrote a screenplay which was filmed in the 1950s under the title A scrap of life. At the Academy Awards in 1957 Lewin was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for his work in the category. It was not until the 1960s, he continued his career as a screenwriter and was primarily involved in numerous series, including Daktari, Kung Fu and Star Trek: The Next Generation. At the latter he was involved as a producer.

Immediately after the war, Lewin had previously worked as a reporter and was then involved in a public relations firm. In his time as a screenwriter, he was involved in about 30 film and television productions, most recently in 1988, he joined in appearance. The Writers Guild of America drafted him in 1969 and 1970 from the WGA Award. In 1979 he was nominated for his role as producer with his participation in the series The Paper Chase for the Emmy.

In 1962, he staged with Third of a Man his first and only feature film.

Lewin died as a result of an illness with lung cancer.
