Robert Louis Whelan

Robert Louis Whelan SJ ( born April 16, 1912 in Wallace ( Idaho), Idaho; † 15 September 2001) was Bishop of Fairbanks.

Life

Robert Louis Whelan joined the Jesuit order, and received on 17 June 1944, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on December 6, 1967 Coadjutor Bishop of Fairbanks and titular bishop of Sicilibba. The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Luigi Raimondi, donated to him on 22 February of the following year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Anchorage, John Joseph Thomas Ryan, and the Bishop of Fairbanks, Francis Doyle Gleeson SJ.

With the resignation of Francis Doyle Gleeson on 15 November 1968, he followed them, as Bishop of Fairbanks.
