Roman Catholic Diocese of Fairbanks
The Diocese of Fairbanks (Latin: Dioecesis de Fairbanks ) is a located in the United States Roman Catholic diocese based in Fairbanks, Alaska.
History
The Diocese of Fairbanks was born on July 27, 1894 by Pope Leo XIII. out of territory of the Archdiocese of Victoria and of the Diocese of New Westminster established as Apostolic Prefecture Alaska. On 22 December 1916, the Apostolic Prefecture Alaska was raised to the Apostolic Vicariate. The Apostolic Vicariate of Alaska announced on June 23, 1951 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Juneau.
On August 8, 1962, the Vicariate Apostolic of Alaska was raised to the bishopric and renamed the Diocese of Fairbanks. In addition, the Diocese of Fairbanks was the Archdiocese of Seattle is a suffragan. On January 22, 1966, the Diocese of Fairbanks was the Archdiocese of Anchorage is a suffragan.
